Cell Membrane Lesson Plan


State Standards: High School Biology

2.1 Relate cell parts/organelles (plasma membrane, nuclear envelope, nucleus, nucleolus, cytoplasm, mitochondrion, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, lysosome, ribosome, vacuole, cell wall, chloroplast, cytoskeleton, centriole, cilium, flagellum, pseudopod) to their functions. Explain the role of cell membranes as a highly selective barrier (diffusion, osmosis, facilitated diffusion, active transport).

Introduction:

You are a designer for computer and internet teaching tools. The students that always send you cookies on your birthday, and flowers in the spring, are struggling with the difference between cell membrane function and cell membrane structure. They need your help. The topic will require a little bit of research.

Task:

Create a computer driven presentation that teaches the essentials of cell membrane structure and function. Presentation must clearly show the difference between the structure and the function of the cell membrane.
